The art critic and writer Robert Hughes explored the impact of radical news ideas and approaches in art in 'The Shock of the New', as a book and as a BBC 4 TV documentary series with himself as the talking head.

Every now and then, I get my own personal shock of the new - this morning, it was at breakfast over the puter.

Now don't be judgmental - just try to stop that any initial negative impulse that might surge up from prior socialization. And be receptive to a genuine gut reaction.

My particular shock today involved seeing something I just haven't ever seen before. Such that I'm not even sure what it's called ...


Perhaps a bit fiendish at first sight (I know you guys too well!) - but, for me and at least on one level, curiously erotic.

I definitely have the urge to reach out and touch it. And squeeze it. And, in the rare event I doing a bit of bottoming, be fucked by it.

Remember, if you all claim to have known/used 'them' since forever, I'll know you were just as shocked by (and curious about) the new as I was!

And I'd demand to know what they're called, if they are made of hard or soft plastic ... and a whole bunch of other questions you won't be able to answer!
