Two Early C20 Viennese Figurines

Every now and then I'm surprised by what catches my fancy. And these two early C20 Viennese figurines definitely fit into this category. Nothing hairy-chested at all about loving and buying them!

They are obviously both from the same factory. And in a (for me) appealing super-realist style.

Of ladies taking their dogs for a walk - one in a nineteen twenties mode ...

... and the other something more Edwardian ...

Ok, reactions ..... ?

Or will stunned silence be the thing!

LOL

  1. The second dog seems to be missing a leg. Do I have to call animal safety of you Nick?

Actually I had to look twice before I realized that there were 2 different ones (the title was my tip off).

  3. Figurines such as these are not my cup of tea, or caffe mit schlag. But I do notice an "oriental" cast to them; I believe this style does model on Chinese figures, beginning with "chinoiserie" in the 18th century. Rough guess here, but what I recall from school. The mouths are particularly dainty as an Asian courtier (or courtisan!) might be.

yep, the second one is a tad legless - like me after a good party

cost next to nothing as a result - but was so beautiful not to have - i've got a painter friend who says he can restore it and i'm tempted

they do have a serious family resemblance - i'm even wondering if there are more.

    take care my friend

yep, i think you're right - and this may be why they are in that super realist style which strikes me as not particularly european - tho the Meissen factory indulged

    take care

a bit of googling the marks on the base of these figurines dredged up that they were from the Hummel Factory (W. Goebel Porzellanfabrik) - Bavaria
