Flowers Flowers Flowers - And It's Still Winter, Well, Just

After a reasonable amount of smugness over recent-ish post about winter flowers in our garden, we decided today to go a bit more public ... and so trotted off to the Botanical Gardens for a bigger canvass.

Actually we had to bolt for the exit gate after our thousandth wildly burgeoning flower bed - the little floras were just blooming and busting out all over the place - but these are some of the photos we did take before we fled - with flowers which practically jump out (VERY BIG INDEED) into your living room/office/sling room/wherever if you click on the image ...

'You likey?'

  1. A gorgeous reminder of what the word "infinite" means--an infinite variety of forms, colors and, I dare say, smells. As someone once sorta said, sometimes too much of a good thing is delightful.

yes, and i think it was also the touch of the infinity that had me scampering out so hastily - well, after a couple of hours that seemed to fly by

there was such a variety both visual and oral as you say it was hard to know which way to point the camera first

and you are right again - too much of a good thing ... is better - i think liberace first put this one out? sharper than he initially looked!

take care - good to hear from you

glad you likey (you know this is a line from the gay fashion designer in an episode of 'sex and the city - a bit of over-the-top trivia - or me being deranged - either doesn't reflect well on me! LOL

tho it's winter technically we're on the precipice of spring - was 28 C yesterday so not very cusp-ish!

sadly i'm a botanical neanderthal - just snapped whatever caught my eye, aesthetically - a bit like 'i don't understand art but i know what i like' - LOL

    take care

  7. Hi Nick......well, it reminded me here in this sultry summer of Washington of those beautiful sub-tropical plants in South Africa - your first pick is of Strelitzia regina - the crane flower - which grows wild where I come from. The name Strelitzia reginae commemorates Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, queen consort of King George III. Another little colonial oddity as most of the plant collectors in SA were Germans. and what do you know, it's also the official flower of Los Angeles. The aloes are also from SA...grow all over the hills in the Eastern Cape. Keep snapping! Trevor

the Strelitzia regina is - curiously - a flower very favoured, decoratively, by gay guys here - so it's well named! and i should confess i've had my share

curiously in the context of queen charlotte, i have a george III tuppenny piece sitting in front of me on my desk - of 1797 - i very great big thick chunky thing

thanks for encouraging more snapping - not that i have much hesitation on that score but it's great to be appreciated

    best
